Information on Ajax Champions League tickets

Ajax Amsterdam is definitely the most decorated Dutch team in European competition. Their accolades are more noteworthy compared to Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven. However, as the most famous powerhouse in Dutch football, playing in the Champions League is always expected in each season. Their loyal fans have always filled the 55,500-seat Johan Cruyff Arena for their European fixtures to create exciting and intimidating atmosphere. No wonder that the experience of watching Champions League live there is second to none.

Ajax’s academy is one of the best in the world. No wonder that many of their stars were developed here. However, not all of them have had a chance to enjoy the success in the Champions League while still wearing Ajax’s shirts. Johan Cruyff, Johnny Rep, Ruud Krol, Arie Haan, Ronald and Frank de Boer, Patrick Kluivert, Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf and Edwin Van de Sar are only some of them who managed to lift the UCL trophy with De Amsterdammers. They were under the only notable managers in Ajax’s history, Rinus Michels, Stefan Kovacs and Louis Van Gaal.

Top Achievements

Ajax’s glory days were definitely in 1970s and mid 1990s. The former decade was the era when Total Football was born and spread to the world with Ajax, Rinus Michels and Johan Cruyff as the representative. It was also the decade they won three consecutive titles from 1971 to 1973. In 1971, Ajax under Rinus Michels trashed Panathinaikos 2-0 in the Wembley final. Then in the following years, Stefan Kovacs was in charge and endured their positive trend by dismantling two Italians in the finals, Inter Milan in 1972 and Juventus in 1973. Their fourth title came more than twenty years later. In 1995, Louis Van Gaal guided his young guns to win over the reigning champions AC Milan 1-0.

Unfortunately, on the other two finals, De Amsterdammers failed in the summit and well-beaten by the Italians. AC Milan did it in 1969 final by trouncing them 4-1 while Juventus edged them out on penalties in 1996.

Iconic Moments in the Champions League

When it comes to the

Iconic Moments

in the Champions League, those two eras are inevitable. The sweetest memory was their first final in 1971. It was the solid proof that their philosophy worked and their first continental trophy cemented it. Rinus Michels’ side smashed Panathinaikos 2-0 by the goals of Van Dijk and Arie Haan. Another moment of glory was in 1995. After a long wait, Ajax was back to the top relying on their academy products. They thumped AC Milan as well as completed their revenge for the 1969 final loss.

The most humiliating moment was their first ever Champions League final in 1969. Rinus Michels was already at the helm of the team and led them to the final after eliminating Benfica and Spartak Tvarna. He was confident that his boys would clinch the title but AC Milan cancelled out their dream and hammered them 4-1 in Bernabeu final. Another one was in 2019 semi final when Erik Ten Hag’s men was hoping to repeat their past glory but Tottenham halted their campaign by 3-3 on away goal rule.
