Information on Algeria National Football Team World Cup tickets

Algeria is one of the strong sides in African football which has its ups and downs. They have their peak form back in 1980s and recently with current Manchester City man Riyad Mahrez in the team. Inconsistency has been something they need to work on to be able to bounce back in the upcoming world cup edition after missing out Russia 2018.

Algeria in the World Cup

Algeria have been able to qualify to the final round on four occasions, in 1982, 1986, 2010 and 2014. Their most unforgettable result was in Brasil 2014. Under Vahid Halilhovic, Algeria stunned their opponents at the group stage. Although losing 1-2 to Belgium, Sofiane Feghouli and Co bounced back by trashing South Korea 4-2 and held Russia in a 1-1 draw. Unfortunately, their impressive campaign was halted by the eventual Champion, Germany in the round of 16 despite performing better than Joachim Loew’s side. Their next best outcome was in their debut in Spain 1982. Algeria was unlucky not to progress due to the probable discreet agreement between Germany and Austria resulting the so-called incident ‘the disgrace of Gijon’ to let Die Mannschaft seal a narrow win so that both neighbouring sides could advance in the expense of Algeria who had played against Chile earlier. There was no official decision from FIFA regarding such accusation. Yet, the changes for the same time in final game of the group stage should insinuate FIFA’s concern on such issue. In the remaining two campaigns in 1986 and 2010, Algeria’s campaign ended in a group stage.

Iconic Moments in the World Cup

The team’s most

Iconic Moments

took place in 1982 and 2014. The opener in Spain 1982 was always worth remembering as they snatched a 2-1 win over Germany. Rabah Madjer and Belloumi netted their winning goals. Their next iconic moment was at the last game of the group against Russia in 2014. They only needed a draw to progress but they were one goal behind instead at the first half. Luckily, Islam Slimani managed to score an equaliser and finally sent them to the round of 16.

Their worst moment in the world cup was on match day three of the group stage in 2010. Algeria had to win over USA to seal one place at the knock out stage. Yet, Rais Mblohi’s slight blunder gave the advantage to USMNT to score their only goal which sufficed to go through to take on Belgium in the round of 16.
