Information on Dynamo Kiev Champions League tickets

Dynamo Kiev is the traditional powerhouse in Ukraine football. Before the rise of Shakhtar Donetsk, Kiev had already gained their glory. However, unlike their campaign in second tier continental competition which ended in a triumph for a couple of times, the club has not been able to clinch a title at the Champions League despite playing regularly in the tournament. The great atmosphere in NSC Olympiyskiy with the capacity for more than 70,000 fans would offer amazing experience, especially for the tight affairs in European fixtures.

Dynamo Kiev have always count on local talents for their European campaign, including their success to progress at the latter stages of the competition. Some of their key figures have been the stars in USSR or Ukraine national team such as Igor Belanov, Oleg Blokhin, Andry Bal, Aleksey Mikhaylichenko, Andrey Husin, Oleg Luzhny, Oleksandr Shovkovskyi, Serhi Rebrov and surely Andrey Shevchenko. In Kiev’s historical campaign in the continent, only one manager deserves in the club’s hall of fame, the great Valery Lobanovsky. He was the one who led them to reach the crucial stages in three different eras.

Top Achievements

As the Ukraine’s top team, their best results in UEFA Champions League were at the semi final. Kiev was able to advance there on three occasions, in 1976/77, 1986/87 and 1998/99. In 1977, they progressed to the last four after edging out the reigning champions, Bayern 2-1 on aggregate but lost to Borussia M’Gladbach 1-2 on aggregate too. Next, ten years later, Valery Lobanovsky’s men were well-beaten 1-2 in both fixtures against the eventual champions, FC Porto while the last one was in 1999 when he led Kiev to face off Bayern Munich. Unfortunately, Andrey Shevchenko and Co was knocked out 2-3 on aggregate.

Apart from those seasons, Dynamo Kiev’s next top achievement was only reaching a quarter final on at least five occasions, in 1973, 1976, 1982, 1983 and 1998. Surprisingly, they were eliminated by the teams which eventually won the European silverware in the last three editions.

Iconic Moments

Dynamo Kiev’s most

Iconic Moments

have been all over the place in different decades, in 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. The first one was the quarter final in 1977 Champions League. Valery Lobanovsky’s side who just beat Bayern in the Super Cup earlier in the season, apparently was still too strong for Franz Beckenbauer and Co who was the defending UCL Champions. They overturned their 0-1 disadvantage to a glorious 2-1 win on aggregate through two winning goals in the last seven minutes before the final whistle. The next unforgettable one was in 1998/99. Once again Kiev stomped the reigning Champions. This time Real Madrid was their victim. Andrey Shevchenko scored all the goals in both away and home games for their 3-1 victory on aggregate.

Meanwhile, their dreadful moments came in 1987 and 1999 semi final. In the former edition, Oleg Blokhin and Co lost 1-2 each in both fixtures, while in the latter edition, it was more dramatic. Facing off Bayern again at the top flight, Kiev had to lose this time. After a thriller 3-3 stalemate at home, Lobanovsky’s men were unable to break the deadlock in Munich but conceded one through Mario Basler’s curling shot.
