Information on France National Football Team World Cup tickets

France is one of the world’s elite teams in the world cup history. They joined the first edition in 1930 and have always been apart of the football history. Les Blues have never lacked of stars in each generation. Despite their long history in the world cup finals, they just clinched their first title in the late 1990s.

Overall Campaign

Les Blues have been in the world cup finals fifteen times out of twenty one editions. Their results vary from failing at the group stage to the Champions. They have won the titles twice. The first one was in 1998 when they became the host. Aime Jacquet led the team to ease past Paraguay, Italy and Croatia at the knock out stage after finishing at the top of the table in the preliminary round. Despite having no prolific striker in the starting XI, France squad in 1998 was full of talents in the midfield. No wonder that Jacquet opted for 4-5-1 with the transition to 4-2-3-1, which became famous afterwards. In the final, they eventually stomped Brazil 3-0 through Zinedine Zidane’s brace and Emmanuel Petit’s late goal to seal their first title on the homeland. Their second one was just clinched in 2018. Didier Deschamps who was the skipper in 1998, was able to rekindle their golden memory in Russia with rather similar tactical approach to 1998 team. They knocked out Argentina, Uruguay and Belgium before only meeting the fatigue Croatia. Antoine Griezmann and Co trashed Vatreni 4-2 by the goals of Madzukic’s own goal, Griezmann’s penalty, Paul Pogba’s and Kyllian Mbappe’s goal.

Their next best result was in 2006 when they were the runner up, whereas the worst campaign were in 1930, 1954, 1966, 1978, 2002 and 2010 since they could not advance to the next stage.

Iconic Moments

France definitely have plenty great moments in the world cup finals. Their most unforgettable one was the 1998 final. At that time, Zidane and Co were not the favorite whilst Brazil had il phenomenon Ronaldo who was at his peak form. However, Ronaldo’s mysterious illness just before the game rather disrupted Brazil’s confidence and Jacquet could expose their main frailty at the back line, being prone to set pieces, especially in the aerial duel. So, there it was and Zidane’s heading brace from corner kicks was the proof. Another moment of glory took place in Mexico 1986, once again related to Brazil. At the quarter final, Michael Platini and Co had to face off Tele Santana’s Brasil which had been lauded for their attractive football. The game was tight and they conceded first through Careca. Yet, Platini was able to equalise. The drama went on during the penalties. Brazilian captain Socrates and Platini failed to convert it but in the end Les Blues edged out the perfect Selecao to the exit.

Meanwhile, their most disappointing moment was the turmoil in South Africa 2010 when the squad was internally in feud after the dismissal of Nicolas Anelka due to his dispute with the boss Raymond Domenech. Some of the players were eventually in mutiny. It definitely ruined their world cup campaign.

Top Figures

The stars of Les Blues on the pitch in their world cup campaign are surely Zinedine Zidane, Thierry Henry, Youri Djorkaeff, Laurent Blanc, Antoine Griezmann, NGolo Kante, Kyllian Mbappe and Paul Pogba. Meanwhile, Aime Jacquet and Didier Deschamps are the distinguished figures at the helm of the team.
