Information on Japan National Football Team World Cup tickets

Japan is the Asian team with the most consistent form in the world cup final round. Since their debut in France 1998, the Samurai Blues have made constant progress from one world cup edition to another, although their outcome tends to be slow and steady, not drastically. However, their campaign is expected to improve in the next World Cup to mark their two decades of performance.

Overall Campaign  Japan have qualified to the final round for six times consecutively since 1998. Their best results so far are reaching the round of 16 three times, in 2002 when they were the joint host with South Korea, in South Africa 2010 and Russia 2018. Surprisingly, their positive result takes place every eight years. In 2002, Hidetoshi Nakata and Co could finish at the top of the table despite being seeded with Belgium, Russia and Tunisia. Yet, they lost 0-1 to Turkey. Next, in 2010, Japan managed to progress after winning twice over Cameroon and Denmark but suffering a from Netherlands. They sat on the second and faced off Paraguay in the second round. Unfortunately, their campaign was halted on penalties. In 2018, Akira Nishino’s men were considered quite lucky to go through due to their less yellow cards compared to their contender, Senegal, at the group stage. Unfortunately, they were beaten by Belgium despite leading 2-0 at first.

Meanwhile, in the other three appearances, the Samurai Blues were at their declining phase with only less than three points in hand. The worst one was in their maiden one, when they failed to pick up a single point and scored only one goal in France.

Iconic Moments

Japan have a number of moments of glory in the world cup finals. Their most iconic one was their 3-1 victory against Denmark on match day three of the group stage in 2010. It was a decisive match for both sides with a spot to the round of 16 for the winner. Keisuke Honda and Co were not the favorite against the Danes but they were able to overturn all the bookies by the goals of Keisuke Honda, Yasuhito Endo and Shinji Okazaki. It was also a solid proof that they could advance from the group stage not just because of the home advantage just like in 2002. Another unforgettable result was the opener in 2018 against Colombia. They stunned Juan Cuadrado and Co and beat them 2-1 through Shinji Kagawa’s and Yuya Osako’s goal. It was the first ever Asian team’s victory over South American side in the world cup.

Meanwhile, Japan’s most devastating moment was the dramatic defeat at the knock out stage in 2018. It was Belgium, the number one team in FIFA rank, which could turned the table in the end after Takeshi Inui and Co’s two-goal lead.

Top Figures

Japanese have not lacked of talents throughout the years. However, the ones who played important roles in their world cup campaign are Hide Nakata, Junichi Inamoto, Tsuneyasu Miyamoto, Yasuhito Endo, Marcus Tulio Tanaka, Keisuke Honda, Takeshi Inui,  Genki Haraguchi, Eiji Kawashima and Yuto Nagatomo, whereas their notable managers are Phillipe Troussier, Takeshi Okada and Akira  Nishino.
