Information on PSV Eindhoven Champions League tickets

PSV Eindhoven is one of the big three in Dutch top division and playing in the UEFA Champions League would be expected in each season. Their home ground, Phillips Stadion with the capacity of 35,000 people is the ideal venue for staging European fixtures. The lively atmosphere at the stadium is fairly incomparable.

PSV have a number of key players who managed to help them for the impressive campaign in this continental top flight competition. The Dutch international star Ronald Koeman, Wim Kieft, Gerald Vanenburg, Hans Van Breukelen, Eric Gerets, Mark Van Bommel, the American Damarcus Beasley, Phillip Cocu, Park Ji Sung and Alex are some of those vital names in their glorious UCL campaign so far.

In PSV’s history, only two names have been able to make notable contributions in the Champions League, Kees Rijvers and Guus Hiddink. They could guide them to the crucial stages plus a silveware in the tournament.

Top Achievements in the Champions League

PSV Eindhoven is the only Dutch teams apart from Ajax, which could clinch the title. They won it in the glorious year of Dutch football, 1988 in a tight affair against Benfica in the final on penalties after a goalless draw in 120 minutes.

Their next best results were in 1975/76 and 2004/05 seasons when they managed to go through semi final. Unfortunately, the Dutch side’ campaign under Kees Rijvers ended on the hand of Saint Etienne after losing 0-1 in aggregate. Meanwhile, the 2005 one was more dramatic since they were eliminated by AC Milan on away goal rules. Their 3-1 victory at the second leg in their home turt could not suffice since they already suffered 0-2 loss in the reverse fixture. Since then no more noteworthy outcome has been made by this Eindhoven-based club.

Iconic Moments

PSV’s first entry in the Champions League was not exactly memorable as their campaign ended too soon after losing from Rapid Vienna in 1955/56. It was twenty years later that marked their first recognition in European top tier competition. At that time, Kees Rijver’s side made a stunning comeback against Hadjuk Split of Yugoslavia. They retaliated their 0-2 loss with a superb 3-0 win at home to reach the semi final debut.

The Champions Cup 1988 edition was their breakthrough since they won the first and only silverware so far. At the final against Benfica, Ronald Koeman and Co was fortunate to beat the Portuguese side 6-5 on penalties. Guus Hiddink was the man behind such triumph. He was also at the helm of the club when PSV went through their second semi final in 2005 after crushing Olympique Lyon on penalties.

Their next matches were something Alex and Co preferred to forget. The 0-2 defeat in Milan put Rossonerro in an advantage and their 3-1 win was not enough. The loss from St.Etienne in 1976 was even more disappointing since they failed to score with a goalless draw at home and lost 0-1 on the road.
