Not normally a household name in European football, FC Augsburg from the city of Augsburg in Bavaria, southern Germany, was founded in 1907. Despite financial difficulties in the 1990s, FCA resumed professional football in 2002 and at the end of the 2011-12 season, FC Augsburg finished second in the league and were promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in its history.
