CONMEBOL Copa América is the main men’s national team football tournament in the confederation of South America and is the oldest international football tournament. Having been founded in 1916, the tournament’s format has changed over the years and recently teams from North America and Asia have been invited to participate.
The 2016 version of the tournament featured 16 teams from all over the Americas as a Centenary celebration of the tournament. From 2007 forward, it was announced that the tournament would be held every 4 years, not every second year as before. The next tournament is slated to take place in 2021 with joint-hosts Argentina and Colombia.
Uruguay has the most Copa América championships with 15 in the tournament’s history, followed closely behind by Argentina with 14 while current champions Brazil have just 9 cups.
With the upcoming tournament being hosted across 9 cities in Argentina and Colombia, it’s a perfect opportunity to explore South America and immerse yourself in its football culture. Compare prices for the best tournament tickets here.
