Levante Unión Deportiva, S.A.D. or simply Levante is a Spanish football club based in Valencia and founded in 1909. Known for its proud fanbase, Levante is named after the beach where the club played some of its first ever games and has a rich history of former players including Johann Cruyff, Predrag Mijatović and more recently Ian Harte and Domiano Tommasi.
With the club motto being “Qué grande es ser pequeño” or ‘How great it is to be small’, the club takes pride in the shadow of a bigger city neighbour, in the model of Espanyol or Manchester City and has attracted attention recently for being particularly well-run at board and management level.
Having entered administration in 2008 with large debts, the club re-imagined its philosophy and invested in young players and revitalising players that did not succeed at other clubs and it has proved successful. Having qualified for the UEFA Europa League for the first time in its history in 2011.
