Paris Saint-Germain Football Club or just PSG was founded in 1970 after a merger of two club’s from the French capital, Paris Football Club and State Saint-Germain. The club has won 40 titles, making it France’s most successful football team as well as the most-supported club in the country.
At the turn of the 21st century, the club seemed to be in trouble, with financial difficulties and relegation challenges in Ligue 1 but in 2011 Qatar Sports Investments decided to buy the club, bringing a cash-injection and big-name players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé more recently.
Now one of the richest clubs in the world, PSG have won eight Ligue 1 titles, including six in the last seven seasons. Their biggest domestic rivals are Olympique de Marseille, with whom they contest ‘Le Classique’ a hotly anticipated match each year with an atmosphere to rival ‘El Clásico’, which it is named after.
Playing their home games in Paris’s 47,929-capacity Parc des Princes since 1974, the club wears its trademark ‘Hechter’ shirt after the fashion designer and club president at the time, Daniel Hechter, made it in 1973.
With spending over €400 million on two players in the last couple of years, PSG has set out its stall to bring European success back to Paris, compare ticket prices for the Parc des Princes to see the new Galacticos in action.
