Newcastle’s takeover has shaken up the Premier League.

There are definitely some questions that need to be answered in relation to the technicalities of the deal. However, if we are just focussing on the footballing aspects, then one of the first things of note is that The Magpies are now able to buy a completely different level of footballer.

In the January transfer window, they will be looking at potential big statement purchases.

There has been some talks about the difficulties of getting the best players up to the North East. However, when Kevin Keegan’s ‘great entertainers’ were at the height of their powers in the mid-90s, some of the top talent in world football settled on Tyneside.

The likes of David Ginola, Faustino Asprilla and Phillipe Albert brought an international feel to the Newcastle side that almost won the league.

Of course, that was a different generation. That being said, we reckon success is the biggest attraction in world football.

Well, success and money and Newcastle will be hoping their excess of the latter attracts the players that will gain the former.

Here are a few players we think they could go for in January…

Jesse Lingard

Lingard has already proven that he can make a difference outside of Old Trafford. His decision not to join West Ham on a permanent basis during the summer indicated that he wants to be part of the Man United set-up.

Their purchase of Ronaldo may have set that ambition back and he could be the perfect fit to be part of this project at Newcastle.

Declan Rice

Many of the biggest teams in Europe have been keeping tracks on Rice. He is a quality player and has helped turn West Ham into a force in the Premier League. However, there is a good chance that he will have a higher ambition than the levels West Ham can provide.

Newcastle could offer to build a team around him, and he could get in on the ground level. It’s a long shot, but who knows.

Divock Origi

The Liverpool striker has scored some of the most important goals in the history of his club. Despite this, he can’t nail down a staring berth. He is clearly a top quality player and moving to a side like Newcastle could be just what his career needs.

There have been some great players who have played at both teams. Think of the likes of Kevin Keegan, Ian Rush, Peter Beardsley and… mm, Andy Carroll.

Whether or not Newcastle buy any of those players, only time will tell. One thing is for sure and that is that there are going to be lots of top footballers coming through the doors at St James’ Park.

Whether that will help them get over the line and win their first top level trophy since the 60s, we shall see.
