Genoa Information and Details
From the crowded port city of Genoa, the fifth largest in Italy, Genoa Cricket and Football Club is the oldest active Italian football team, dating back to 1893. Genoa have won the Italian Championship nine times, with the latest being in 1924.
The club has played their home games at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium since 1911, where you can sit with the home fans in the Gradinata Nord.
In recent years, Genoa have somewhat unfortunately been overlooked with their successes being outdone by local rivals Sampdoria. With the charismatic captain Gianluca Signorini, Genoa finished in fourth place in Serie A, remaining undefeated at home, while neighbours Sampdoria took a historic Scudetto.
More recently, in 2015, Genoa finished in sixth place, qualifying them for UEFA Europa League football the following season, but the local curse was to strike again as Genoa had not filed the correct paperwork for their stadium to host UEFA games, the qualifying spot going to Sampdoria, who finished in seventh.
