1. Fußball- und Sportverein Mainz 05 e. V., or Mainz is a football club based in the city of Mainz near Frankfurt in Germany. Founded in 1905 the club remained in regional leagues until the 1980s but since 1990, Mainz has remained in the top two tiers of German football.
Perhaps most famous now as the club that gave Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel their first jobs in coaching, FSV Mainz came into the Bundesliga after former defender Klopp took charge of the club and led them to a European adventure in the UEFA Europa League as well as three consecutive years in the Bundesliga. Klopp left the job for Dortmund to a rousing farewell in the centre of Mainz by 15,000 fans.
Since taking over from Klopp, Thomas Tuchel led the club to a fifth-place finish in the Bundesliga, their best ever and eventually followed in Klopp’s footsteps to Dortmund.
