Top Achievements
In their history of FA Cup campaign, Chelsea have won eight titles in fifteen finals. Their accolades mainly began in the mid 1990s, which was around twenty years of waiting from their first glory in 1970. At that time, The Blues were able to edge out the favorite Don Revie’s Leeds United by a replay. Their next trophy came in 1997 when the legendary Dutch star Ruud Gullit was at the helm of the team and led them to crush Middlesbrough 2-0. From then on, more and more titles have been put into their collection in Stamford Bridge starting from the 2000 edition and followed by the 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2018 edition.
Meanwhile, the seasons which they missed the chance to secure the silverware were in 1915, which was their very first final but lost to Sheffield United, in 1967 when they were beaten by Spurs, then during the Premier League era in 1994, 2002, 2017, 2020 and 2021.
Iconic Moments
Chelsea definitely have some
Iconic Moments
in FA Cup, especially considering a number of finals they could reach. Their best one surely was their first final in 1970. At that time, The Blues were not the favorite and they had to take on Leeds United, which was one of the best English teams back then. The game initially ended in a 2-2 stalemate. Yet, at the replay, they managed to thump The Whites 2-1. Peter Osgood and David Webb scored their winning goals. The next iconic moment was in 1997 final. It was their first in twenty seven years. Fortunately, they only met Middlesbrough in the summit and dismantled them 2-0. The last one was memorable one was the 2012 final. It was the turnover season when Di Matteo took charge in the middle of the season. They soared to the top four and won two titles eventually, FA Cup and UCL.
Their most devastating moment was surely the 1994 final. Glen Hoddle’s side was hapless against Manchester United and beaten 0-4. Another disappointing moment was the 2020 final Frank Lampard blew the chance to win his first title as his men suffered a 1-2 loss from Arsenal.
