Located in the centre of France’s famous Champagne region, Stade de Reims was formed in 1910 and is remembered as one of the most successful teams in French football history having won six league titles in thirteen years ending in 1962.
Reims play their home games at the Stade Auguste Delaune, a renovated stadium within the city which holds over 21,000 fans.
Having taken the reins from a former manager in 1952, former midfielder Albert Batteux became one of the most successful French managers of all time. Batteux brought the club six league titles but also gained fans across Europe by taking his swift, passing football to the final of the inaugural European Cup against Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Batteux repeated the feat and faced the same Real team 2 seasons later with the same outcome, unfortunately for Reims fans. Batteux’s management did not go unnoticed however, he later managed the French national team featuring many Reims players to third place at the 1958 World Cup.
Decades passed and Reims struggled financially, particularly in 1992 when they filed for bankruptcy. However, promotion in 2012 saw Reims return to the top flight for the first time in 33 years.
