Under his ownership, the club rose up four divisions, to claim Premier League status for the first time in 2001.

Al-Fayed’s ownership culminated with a famous run in the UEFA Europa League, reaching the final under Roy Hodgson, only to lose in extra-time to Atletico Madrid. Hodgson went on to manage Liverpool and England and The Cottagers have since struggled in the Premier League and now find themselves in the Championship dreaming of a top-flight return.
