Sampdoria Information and Details
Unione Calcio Sampdoria, was formed as a merger of two clubs in 1946, with roots going back to the 1890s. Sampierdarenese and Andrea Doria mashed their names together, as was the custom at the time and we even see the remains of the merger today in the club’s unusual four colour strip, blue, white, red and black.
From the city of Genoa, the club has recently been battling its local rivals down at the bottom of Serie A, but memories of the club will be directed to the Scudetto-winning side of the early 1990s, who also took Barcelona to extra-time in the final of the European Cup the following year.
With the likes of Gianluca Vialli and Roberto Mancini playing alongside Ruud Gullit, the side did have some success in Europe, lifting the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1990.
Known for bringing many foreign players to the league in the 1980s and 90s, Sampdoria regressed in the 2000s with ownership and financial issues at the root of it.
Despite this, the last number of years have been successful and has seen the club return to the UEFA Europa League. Get your chance to see the blucerchiati in action by comparing ticket prices here.
