Information on Rangers FC Champions League tickets

Glasgow Rangers is definitely one of the two legendary Scottish club in Europe. Yet, unlike their long-standing contender, Celtic, Rangers have not been regularly playing for the top tier of European competition. However, when it comes to the Champions League fixtures, the 50,817-seat Ibrox Stadium creates thrilling atmosphere with their die hard fans.

Rangers have had a number of key names who played crucial roles in their progress in the past, during the 1960s and 1970s era. It was their noteworthy period in the Champions League. Gordon Smith, Ralph Brand, Alex MacDonald, Jim Forrest, Alan Hutton, Nacho Nouvo and Kris Boyd are some of the notable names who helped Rangers made important progress in this top flight tournament.  Meanwhile, the distinguished Rangers boss who have led to the team to the latter stages in their continental campaign at the first tier are Scott Symon, Jock Barnes and Alex McCleish.

Ranger’s Top Achievements in Europe

Glasgow Rangers’ best result was only managing to progress to the semi final in 1959/60 edition. Scott Symon’s side, unfortunately, had to end their continental campaign by losing to Eintracht Frankfurt 4-12 on aggregate.

Their next notable results were reaching quarter finals three times and round of 16 once. Rangers’ first quarter final was in  1961/62 but lost to Standard Leige, the second time was in 1964/65 season. Inter Milan stopped their campaign at that time. The last one was in 1978/79. Rangers stumbled again while facing FC Koln at that time after previously eliminating PSV Eindhoven.  The 2005/06 season was the last time Rangers could progress to the later stage. Yet, Kris Boyd and Co failed to advance despite being unbeaten in the round of 16 as Villareal were able to take advantage from the away goal rule. The Scottish’ side headed to the exit on 3-3 aggregate.

Rangers FC’s Most Iconic moment

Glasgow Rangers’ best moments mainly took place back in their golden days of 1960s and 1970s. In 1960, Gers eliminated Sparta Rotterdam after a tight clash in a play off. The next one was in 1978/79 season when they snatched an important win over Juventus and PSV Eindhoven. Alex MacDonald and Co dismantled Juventus 2-0 to overturn their opposition’s advantage in the reverse fixture while on the second round, they thumped PSV 3-2 on the road. The last one was a 3-2 victory over Porto in 2005/06 season. It was the key win to help them progress to the next stage.

Their losing moments are in fact, as many as the winning ones. However, the most disappointing one was the round of 16 in 2006. At the second leg in El Madrigal, Gers aimed for a win after a 2-2 draw at home. They took the lead through Peter Lovenkrands but Rudolfo Arrubaena put them back on the level terms and the home side progress. Another one was at the quarter final in 1965. Rangers lost 0-2 to Inter Milan at the first leg and needed a three-goal win at home to go through. Unfortunately, they could only pick up a 1-0 win.
