Information on Lazio Europa League tickets

Lazio have been playing regularly in Europa League more than in the Champions League. They made their first entry in 1970/71 season and thrived ever since compared to their campaign at the continental top flight. Their home turf, Olimpico Roma, with more than 70,000 fans along with its exciting atmosphere suits for staging European fixtures.

Biancoceleste have had plenty of stars who helped them improving their campaign in Europa League. Christian Vieri, Diego Fuser, Pavel Nedved, Dejan Stankovic, Sinisa Mihajlovic, Marcelo Salas, Mathias Almeyda and the current Azzurri boss, Roberto Mancini, are a few of them who contributed well for Lazio’s continental peak form in late 1990s. The only manager who could guide them into their golden days in Europe was Sven Goran Eriksson. He was not only at the helm for their first and only continental trophy but also their first Serie A title. No other managers has been at the same level as the former Benfica boss up to this day yet.

Top Achievements

Lazio’s best season in Europe was definitely in 1998/99. Eriksson’s men managed to clinch their first continental title, Cup Winners Cup, the second tier European competition before its abolishment in 2000. At the summit, they beat Real Mallorca 2-1 in Villa Park. It was officially the last edition of the tournament.

In the previous season, they managed to reach the UEFA Cup final but had to lose 0-3 to Inter Milan and their star-studded squad. Il Phenomenon, the Brasilian Ronaldo, Ivan Zamorano and Javier Zanetti scored the winning goals in the match. It was the first final for Lazio before winning it in the following season. Their next best result in the competition is only progressing to the semi final.

Iconic Moments in the competition

Lazio’s iconic moments in Europa League were mainly during their late 1990s. Their victory in 1999 Winners Cup final was certainly the first. They thumped Real Mallorca 2-1 through Christian Vieri’s header but Dani Garcia could find the equaliser. The former Czech Rep international Pavel Nedved bagged a winning goal as he struck the ball to the back of the net. Another notable moment was in 1998 UEFA Cup semifinal when they encountered Atletico Madrid. Eriksson’s men were able to snatch a 1-0 win on the road after being held in a goalless draw in the reverse fixture. The Serbian Vladimir Jugovic netted the only goal of the game.

Lazio’s least memorable games in this competition took place in 1998 and 2003. The 1998 final in Parc des Princes against Inter Milan was certainly the first one. They were dismantled 0-3 by La Beniamata’s South American connection, the Brasilian Ronaldo, the Chilean Zanetti and the Argentine Javier Zanetti. Another one was in 2003 semi final. At this stage, they faced off Jose Mourinho’s FC Porto. After only mustering a goalless draw at home, Claudio Lopez and Co were lacklustre and hammered 1-4 in Estadio Das Antas, Porto’s old home ground before moving the current Estadio do Dragao. Such defeat buried Lazio’s dream to reach their third final in history in Europa League.
