Recent History of the Europa League
The UEFA Europa League is the secondary competition by European football’s governing body, UEFA. This competition allows for the best teams in Europe, that are not playing in the UEFA Champions League, the chance to compete for another major trophy. The competition has evolved over recent years into a format that is better for teams and allows the inclusion of teams that were not successful in the first tier competition, the Champions League.
The Europa League has been known as several names previously including the Cup Winners Cup, UEFA Cup, Inter-Cities Cup. Whilst this competition might not be as prestigious as the main European competition, it produces winners from around Europe every year. Teams such as CSKA Moscow, Ipswich Town, or even IFK Gothenburg have won the the trophy in the past.
To qualify for the Europa League, teams must finish in a specific position in their respective national leagues, or be champions of the national cup competition. In the English Premier League, teams that finish in 5 position qualify automatically for the UEFA Europa League.
We at Seat Compare, list tickets for all games in the competition from the qualifying rounds starting in July, all the way to way to the final in May at the end of the domestic season. The Europa League competition allows for teams in smaller leagues not fortunate to qualify for the Champions League to face some of the biggest teams. Teams such as Manchester United, FC Barcelona, Juventus and Arsenal FC have all played in the competition in recent years.
The winners of the Europa League are now given an added incentive in which they will automatically qualify for the group stages of the UEFA Champions League the following season. See below on how to order tickets to the Europa League and find the best deal for seats around the stadiums. The good news for football fans is that tickets for the Europa League on average are lower in price than the Champions League.
