Qatar Men’s National Footall team is the new rising team in Asia in the past few years. They are ready to shake the domination of Japan-South Korea plus Iran in the region as well as improve their profile for the upcoming world cup in 2022. They would like to prove that Al ‘Anbiya can only be successful off the pitch but not on the pitch and their progress seem to be already on course for their world cup debut next year.
Qatar has been more well known as the dark horse in the region so far. The nation which just played their first international game in 1970, have had a number of accolades in Middle East tournaments before eventually winning their first ever regional trophy, Asian Cup, in 2019. Qatar’s first major titles are the Gulf Cup, which they have won three times in 1992, 2004 and 2014. Their U-23 team campaign in Olympic Games 1992 was quite impressive too as Mubarak Mustafa and Co could surprisingly reach quarter final. Moreover, they also won a gold medal in Asian Games 2006.
Meanwhile, as apart of their preparation for the World Cup finals, Qatar joins a number of competition such as Copa America 2019, CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2021 plus the world cup qualifiers in Europe by being included in group A alongside Portugal, Serbia and Ireland in it. Their most memorable inter continental campaign was in Gold Cup 2021 as they managed to become the semi finalist.
Qatar have had some notable years during their progressive period. The 1992 was one of their distinguished year in their international fixtures. Al-‘Anbiya won their first ever silverware, the Gulf Cup and qualified to 1992 Olympics. They managed to eliminate Colombia and Egypt at the preliminary round to accompany Spain to progress to the quarter final. Unfortunately, they were beaten 0-2 by Poland. Another memorable years were surely within 2019 and 2021. In Asian Cup 2019, Felix Sanchez’s men stunned their rival after clinching AFC Asian Cup title by trashing Japan 3-1 in the summit after previously edging out Iraq, South Korea and the host UEA at the knock out stages. Meanwhile, in 2021, they were able to advance to the semi final in CONCACAF Gold Cup. Almoez Ali eased past El Salvador at the last eight before USA halted them to go through the final.
In Qatari football, two notable men at the helm of the team, Evaristo de Macedo and Felix Sanchez, have brought the team elevate to the next level. The former led Mubarak Mustafa, Mahmoud Soufi and Co to reach quarter final in the Olympic Games while the latter guided Hasan Al-Haydos, Almoez Ali and his teammates to the triumphant glory in Asian Cup plus Gold Cup.
