Information on Senegal National Football Team World Cup tickets

Senegal has not been exactly a historically well-known African football team until 2002, when they made a stunning debut in the world cup. There has been rise and fall afterwards though they still manage to progress at the crucial stage in the continental competition. With their current stars in their team today such as Liverpool man Sadio  Mane, Senegal is hoping for another great campaign in the next edition.

Senegal in the World Cup

Senegal have only been able to qualify to the world cup finals twice, which is less than the famous powerhouse in African football such as Cameroon or Nigeria which could make it to me final round six times each. Nevertheless, Senegal’s most distinguished campaign in 2002 was equal to Cameroon but better than The Super Eagles. In Japan-Korea 2002, Bruno Metsu’s men were able to advance to the quarter final in their maiden world cup after stunned Sweden 2-1 in the round of 16. At the group stage, Aliou Cisse and Co finished second below Denmark but above France, the reigning champion after beating them 1-0 at the opener but only mustering a 1-1 draw against Denmark and a 3-3 draw versus Uruguay. Sadly, their impressive display ended in the hand of Turkey through Ilhan Manszis’s golden goal.

Their next campaign in 2018 was more disappointing when Sadio  Mane and Co would only scored four goals and failed to progress to the knock out stage. Being grouped with Poland, Japan and Colombia, Senegal won over Poland,  was held in a tie against Japan and slumped to a defeat from Colombia.

Iconic Moments in the World Cup

Senegal’s most wonderful moment was surely the opener in 2002. France was the absolute favorite to pick up a win but Pape  Diop scored the only goal of the game and humiliated them 1-0. Another Senegal’s defining moment was in the round of 16. They faced off Sweden which once again was the favorite after eliminating Argentina. On the pitch, it was really the opposite. Henri Camara netted a brace to give them a 2-1 victory over Blagut.

Their most disappointing moment was in 2018 when they failed to advance just because of having more booked players than Japan, their contender collecting same points as them. However, it should not have been the case if Sadio Mane and Co could have just held Colombia in a draw. Instead, Aliou Cisse’s men slumped to a defeat.

Top Players & Managers

Senegal’s best campaign would never have happened without the contribution of Bruno Metsu. The late French manager guided Pape Diop, Salif  Diao, El-Hadji Diouf, Khalilou Fadiga and Aliou Cisse to their glorious world cup debut.
