Information on South Korea National Football Team World Cup tickets

South Korea is one ‘definite’ representative from Asia in the world cup finals. For them, sealing one berth at the final round is a must. No wonder that their qualifying record has been constant since 1986. Along with Japan, The Taeguk Warriors are Asia’s leading teams the world cup finals.

Overall Campaign

South Korea have qualified to world cup final round ten times, with their last nine secured in a row. Their first appearance was actually a while ago, in Switzerland 1954. Unfortunately, it was not something to be proud of considering their humiliating result during the tournament, being scoreless and conceding sixteen times. Korea had to wait for 32 years for the second appearance, but their campaign was still disappointing. It went on until they were selected as the joint host with Japan for the first World Cup in Asia. Suddenly, this mediocre team turned to be an unpredictable dark horse. The experienced  manager Guys Hiddink led the Taeguk Warriors’ transformation and could even bring them to the last four despite being seeded with Portugal, USA and Poland at the group stage, plus facing off Italy and Spain. Their wonderful journey finally came to an end when Germany edged them out, plus Turkey’s narrow victory in the third place play off. Their next best achievement was in South Africa 2010. Park Ji Sung and Co surprisingly managed to finish as the runner up at the group stage below Maradona’s Argentina despite being in the same group with Nigeria and Greece. Sadly, Korea could not progress further than the round of 16 as Uruguay stood in their way and crushed them 2-1.

In the remaining appearances in 1986, 1990, 1998, 2006, 2014 and 2018, Taeguk Warriors were unable to level their contenders’ form and went home early. Their campaign in 1990 was by far, the worst after their debut.

Iconic Moments in the World Cup

South Korea’s greatest world cup moment was definitely their victory against Italy and Spain at the knock out stage of 2002 amid the controversy. They thumped Gli Azzurri 2-1 through Seol ki Hyeon’s goal and Ahn Jung Hwan’s golden goal after being one goal behind in the second round, while at the last eight, Guus Hiddink’s men eliminated Spain on penalties. Another notable moment was their 2-0 triumph against Germany, the reigning champions, in the last game of the preliminary round. The result did not change anything since they still failed to go through but it was their first victory over Die Mannschaft and they could topple them on the table.

Top Players & Managers

There is none whose contribution in their world cup campaign as distinguished as Guus Hiddink. The Dutch boss had transformed the Taeguk Warriors to become the most surprising team in the world cup history. He pushed Hong Myung Bo, Seol Ki Hyeon, Yoo Sang Chul, Park Ji Sung, Ahn Jung Hwan, Lee Young Pyo, and Lee Won Jae to the limit they themselves could not even imagine to thrive in the tournament. Another noteworthy manager in South Korea’s world cup team was Huh Jung Moo who guided the team to the knock out stage without home advantage.
