Information on Belgium National Football Team World Cup tickets

Belgium has been one of the most progressive European teams despite having their dark days too. In the world cup history, their campaign has been improving since their earliest edition of the tournament to the 2018 edition. Although they have yet won a single international title, De Rode Deuvels have the potentials to do so in the future, including in FIFA world cup.

Belgium in the World Cup

Belgium have been in the world cup finals since 1930 and appeared on thirteen occasions. Their most notable results were in 1986 and 2018, which was the peak of their golden generations. In Mexico 1986, they did not start the campaign well after only finishing on the third place below Mexico and Paraguay with a win, draw and loss each. However, at the knock out stage, they became an entirely different team by edging out Soviet Union 4-3 and Spain 5-4 on penalties to crave their way to the semi final. Only the greatest Maradona and Michael Platini and Co could stop Belgium to make further surprise in the semi final and third place play off. In Russia 2018, Eden Hazard and Co made better campaign than their senior in the 1980s. They finished the preliminary round as the group leader to topple England, Tunisia and Panama. At the knock out stage, they eliminated Japan and Brasil to go through the last four but once again France stood in their way to the final. They finally gained the third place after beating England again for the second time during the tournament.

Their results in the other appearances have shown a rising trend, with some declining moments too. In 1930 to 1938 plus 1954 and 1970 their campaign ended up at the group stage. Then, in 1982 De Rode Deuvels could reach the second round. Next, after 1986 unlikely improvement, they began their declining phase by only progressing to the round of 16 in 1990 and 1994 plus 2002 with a horrible one in 1998. Finally, their new golden generation rose up in 2014 as they advanced to the quarter finals before climbing to another peak in 2018.

Iconic Moments of Belgium

The iconic world cup moments for Belgium spread in different editions. The opener in 1982 was the first as they beat the defending champions Argentina with the young Maradona in it through a single goal of Erwin Vanderbergh. Four year later, the next memorable moment came as they knocked out USSR, one of the favourites, 4-3. Their positive form continued at the quarter final by defeating Spain on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Another glorious moment was at the quarter final of 2018 against Brasil. Roberto Martinez led the team to ease past the South American favourite by 2-1 win through Fernandinho’s own goal and Kevin de Bruyne’s strike. Selecao’s star Neymar was frustrated and unable to score. They had to count on the substitute Renato Augusto to break the deadlock.

Meanwhile, their terrible moment took place in 1998. Their last game against South Korea was supposed to be easy and they only needed a three-goal victory to guarantee one spot on the next stage. Unfortunately, they were held in a 1-1 draw instead.

Top Players & Managers

On managerial side, Guy Thys and Roberto Martinez are undoubtedly the most distinguished figures in Belgium world cup campaign. They guided their golden generations including Jan Cuelemans, Enzo Scifo, Jean Marie Plaff, Eric Gerets, Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard, Kevin de Bruyne and Thibault Cortois to their triumphant campaigns.
