Information on United States National Football Team World Cup tickets

United States perhaps have won the most gold medals in almost every Olympic games. Unfortunately, they have not been able to do the same in World Cup. Football or soccer in their own term there, is still less popular compared to basketball, baseball or even their own American football. Soccer is in fact more famous among the females. No wonder that their women’s team is the strongest in the world and have won the most World Cup titles, something which the USMNT are still in progress.

USA in the World Cup

USMNT have made ten appearances in the final rounds. USA was even one of the teams which participated in the first edition in 1930. They did not only manage to go further than the first round, but even reached the last four before being hammered by Argentina 1-6. That was their best campaign so far. The Yanks’ next noteworthy result was in Japan-Korea 2002. At that time, Bruce Arena’s men were grouped with the host South Korea, Portugal and Poland and advanced as the group runner-up. In the round of 16, USA knocked out Mexico before taking on Germany at the quarter final. Sadly, that was where their campaign ended.

In their other appearances, USMNT’s campaign either was halted in the round of 16 or at the group stage. They were able to progress to the second round four times, in 1934, 1994, 2010 and 2014 but failed to go through in 1950, 1990 and 2006.

USA’s Iconic World Cup Moments

USA does have some unforgettable matches in the world cup finals. The first one was at the second round in Uruguay 1930. They crushed Paraguay 3-0 by a hat-trick of Bert Patenaude. The second one was their first game in 2002 when Brian McBride and Co stunned Portugal 3-2. John O’Brien opened the scoring, followed by Jorge Costa’s own goal and Brian McBride’s goal. Selecao de Quinas only responded twice through Beto and Jeff Agoos’s own goal. The next one was still in 2002. It was in the round of 16 when they happened to be up against their regional contender, Mexico. Bruce Arena’s side dismantled El Sombrero through Brian McBride’s and Landon Donovan’s goal.

Their most devastating moment was probably in the round of 16 in 2010. Landon Donovan and Co were aiming for their second quarter finals. They encountered Ghana in Rustenburg and were involved in a tight affair. The African side took the lead through Kevin Prince Boateng, Landon Donovan equalised by a penalty. Unfortunately, they conceded in the extra time as Asamoah Gyan found the back of the net. It was 2-1 for Ghana.

Top Players & Managers

The USMNT’s top players and managers in their world cup history are Bert Petenaude, Brian McBride, Brad Friedel, Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Michael Bradley and Tim Howard. Meanwhile, their notable head coach so far are Bruce Arena and Bob Millar, who led the team respectively in 2002 and 1930.
