Information on Nigeria National Football Team World Cup tickets

Nigeria has emerged as one of the new giants in African football since 1990s. It was also the decade they managed to make their debut in the world cup finals. They have won a number of continental accolades and produced outstanding talents from time to time. The Super Eagles’ international campaign has been fairly constant not only on the senior level but also the U-21 or below to guarantee the development of Nigerian football.

Overall Campaign

Nigeria have been able to qualify to the world cup finals six times since 1990s. Their have made equal results for both positive and negative ones. Their best outcome came in 1994, 1998 and 2014 as they managed to advance to the round of 16 while the less memorable campaigns were in 2002, 2010 and 2018 edition since they were unable to go through to the next stage. In their maiden world cup in 1994, Super Eagles managed to finish the top of the group table above Bulgaria, Argentina and Greece. Unfortunately, Daniel Amokachi and Co’s top form was halted by Italy 1-2 after the extra time. In the following edition, Nigeria once again was at the top of the group stage toppling Paraguay, Spain plus Bulgaria. Yet, once again, they could not advance further than the round of 16, having been romped over 1-4 by Denmark. Meanwhile, in Brasil 2014, their performance was not exactly convincing by only collecting four points from one win, draw and loss each. However, Ahmed Musa and Co still managed to advance to the next round. Sadly, they had to head to the exit following their defeat from France.

Meanwhile on the remaining occasions, Super Eagles failed at the progress from the group stage with the worst one was in 2002 and 2010 since they have been winless in all six games despite being grouped with only South Korea and Greece beside Argentina in South Africa 2010.

Iconic Moments

Super Eagles’ iconic moment took place in France 1998. At the opening match of group D, Nigeria would have to take on La Furia Roja, one of the favourites with Luis Enrique, Fernando Hierro plus Raul Gonzales in the squad. It was a tight affair and Spain took the lead through Real Madrid skipper Fernando Hierro. Yet, Bora Milutinovic’s men responded quickly as Mutiu Adepoju headed it home to equalise. After the interval, they conceded again as Raul Gonzales found the back of the net. However, they came from behind as Andoni Zubizarretta made a blunder leading to their second goal before Sunday Oliseh’s long range shot broke Spain’s confidence to hold on longer in the tournament. Raul Gonzales and Co were eventually knocked out at the first round.

Their horrible moment was in fact in their maiden world cup, USA 1994. Clemens Westerhof’s side had a chance to progress further than round of 16. They opened the scoring against Italy and could put some pressure to Gli Azzurri’s defence. Unfortunately, their mentality in a decisive game in the world cup finals eventually made the difference. Arrigho Sacchi’s men had the advantage and clinched a win in a dramatic way.

Top Players & Managers

Nigeria’s notable players who have contributed well to their world cup campaign are Daniel Amokachi, Rashidi Yekini, Daniel Amunike, Peter Rufai, Sunday Oliseh, Jay Jay Okocha, and Taribo West. They were guided by two most distinguished head coach figures in the tournament, the Dutch’s Clemens Westerhof and Bora Milutinovic.
